Fed Square Microbreweries Showcase
Due to some poor planning on my part, I only allowed 2 hours to taste 20 beers of the many on offer at the Fed Square Microbreweries Showcase held earlier this week at Fed Square in Melbourne.
Aside from the time limit, the extra dimension to the challenge was to recall the 20 beers we tasted.
A task which became slightly more difficult as my iphone was almost out of juice. No quickly tapping the name in after each sample. Nor did either of us think to bring a pen. So it was recall by brochure and beer mat collection - which after the first five tastings becomes an extremely flawed process...
So from my half drunk recollection and pile of beer mats and brochures, we tried:

- Coldstream Hills Naked Ale
- Aplha Pale Ale
- Big Helga Lager (preview of Matilda Bay new release)
- Grand Ridge Gippsland Gold Pale Ale
- Boatrocker Alpha Queen
- Bridge Road Brewers Chevalier Saison
- Bridge Road Brewers Chevalier Biere De Garde
- Buckleys Ale
- Bright Brewing Blowhard Pale Ale
- Effen Triple Malt Premium Lager
- Three Troupers Pale Ale
- White Rabbit Ale
- Holgate White Ale
- Mountain Goat Pale
- Two Brothers Growler
- Two Brothers Rusty
Score 18/20.
Overall, we were knocked out by the range and quality on offer.
While there is no such thing as as bad beer (debatable), of those beers I had never tried before, my three stand outs were the Two Brothers Rusty, Buckleys Ale and the Boatrocker Alpha Queen.
The Two Brothers Rusty and the Buckleys Ale took me back to Belgium and the UK respectively and I will most assuredly be browsing their websites looking for stockists.
However, my clear favourite for the day was the Boatrocker Alpha Queen. I'll do a longer post as beer of the week, but suffice to say, I just found another great, distinctive beer. A six pack came home with me and there are a couple chilling ready for the "Beer of the Week" post.
