Mountain Goat Organic Steam Ale
I have been drinking Mountain Goat's beers for a long time and they have consistently produced a fine quality product. And with their latest release, Organic Steam Ale, the tradition continues.
It strays well away from bitter. In fact, it goes very close to what I can only term "slightly toasty verging on sweet" which I think is what makes it extremely drinkable. In fact, it is actually quite difficult to put into words how this beer tastes. I just find myself wanting another...and another.
Maybe its about restraint. It delivers enough of a taste sensation without feeling like you have belted across the back of the head, but leaves you wanting more.
Teddy Roosevelt said "walk quietly and carry a big stick". This beer embodies that famous quote. There is no power punch of flavour, just a subtle melange that keeps you travelling back to the 'fridge, esky, cooler or bar for more.
I would drink it with Chinese food. Specifically, crispy skinned chicken, peking duck or BBQ pork...
